About me
Dr. Patricia Mbugua is an experienced and visionary leader in the field of special education, currently serving as the Director of Special Education and Support Services at Real Journey Academies. Over the course of her career, she has held several key leadership roles including Special Education Program Specialist, Coordinator, Assistant Director, and now Director.
Dr. Mbugua is dedicated to ensuring equitable access and improved outcomes for students with disabilities through systemic change, instructional leadership, and strategic program development. At Real Journey Academies, she leads the design and implementation of special education services, supports compliance with state and federal regulations, and guides teams in building inclusive, student-centered learning environments.
She has also been a trainer and facilitator, providing district-wide professional development to educators and administrators in areas such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), legally compliant IEPs, inclusive practices, and data-driven problem-solving. Her collaborative approach and unwavering focus on student success continue to be her priority. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Child Development, Master Degree in Special Education, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She is married to David Mbugua and both have two sons, Joseph and Andrew Mbugua.
